The rear diff can leak in several areas, and fixing these leaks will usually
mean a lot of labor involved. There are oil seals on the front pinion
and both stub axles. The rear diff cover can also leak at the flange,
and this requires replacing the gasket and draining and refilling the rear
diff fluid; unfortunately the rear cover is integrated into the upper diff
mounts, so removal is a royal pain - the front/pinion is still attached
to the front nose of the differential housing and detaches from the rear
cover/upper diff mount. Minor leaks (no drips onto the floor) can
be ignored for now and end up being an annoyance. The drain plug
should have an (aluminum) crush washer to seal the fluid in.
