When U-joints fail, they transmit vibrations to the chassis which increase with
speed. The front U-joint usually fails first. You can inspect the U-joints
by removing the driveshaft from under the car. If there is excessive play or
binding, the U-joint needs to be replaced.
The problem with the U-joints on the driveshaft is that they are not replaceable.
The driveshaft needs to be retrofitted to handle replaceable U-joints or swap for a good,
used driveshaft (with good U-joints).
Check your local telephone listings for a driveline shop in the automotive section.
They can give you a better idea of labor and costs involved with a fix.
