If the rear
transmission seal is leaking, transmission fluid will seep from the back-end of
the transmission, where the transmission mates with the driveshaft.
Transmission fluid leaking from the rear transmission seal tend to be very
messy; the fluid ends up leaking all over the rotating driveshaft whick flings
it all over the underneath of the chassis.
You'll need to remove the
driveshaft from the transmission to access the rear seal. The easiest way
to do this is to remove the four bolts that secure the back end of the
driveshaft to the rear differential. Once the driveshaft drops from the
rear, slide the splined front end out of the transmission. You can then
access the transmission rear seal.
