Symptoms:
Trying to engage the starter just rewards you with loud clicking without the engine cranking over.  The clicking noise is the starter solenoid trying to engage the main starter motor.  The engine may crank over occasionally.

Bad / dying starter:  Unfortunately, whether the problem is with the starter itself or the starter solenoid, the entire starter needs to be replaced.
