Engine oil leaks can be bothersome and a headache.  Engine oil leaks will be localized to the front of the car, and the oil system is restricted mainly to the engine bay.  The leaking oil can be mostly characterized by a dark black or brown oil.  Smelling the oil will typically smell like exhaust gas and / or gasoline.
